Edu-HAI - Team

Our team unites experts from diverse fields, such as psychology, educational sciences, and computer science, to develop and implement a hybrid human-AI approach that enhances self-regulated learning in K-12 digital education. This multidisciplinary collaboration is crucial for creating a novel model that adaptively engages learners, empowering them to take control of their educational journey through concepts like co-regulation and shared regulation.

Danial Hooshyar is an Associate Professor of Educational Data Mining and Learning Analytics at the Centre for Educational Technology, Tallinn University, and a Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Education and Psychology, University of Jyväskylä. He is the leader of the Artificial Intelligence for Education research group (https://sites.google.com/view/aied-tlu). His research interests include AI for education, educational data mining, learner modeling, and adaptivity and personalization.

Eve Kikas is a Distinguished Professor in School Psychology in the School of Natural Sciences and Health and a Head of the Centre of Educational Psychology in the School of Educational Sciences in Tallinn University, Estonia. Her research areas are children’s development and learning in kindergarten and school, the role of individual characteristics and contextual factors (e.g., teaching practices and parental support) in students’ learning, considering varying skill levels and ages. She has been a leader of several research and applied projects that have dealt with developing tests for assessing children’s cognitive abilities and general competences.

Elina Malleus-Kotšegarov is an Associate Professor of Educational Psychology in the School of Educational Sciences at Tallinn University. Her main research interests are related to social-emotional development and conceptual change. She also develops and evaluates interventions for teachers to support better students' wellbeing and effective learning.

Kati Aus is a Researcher of Educational Psychology in the Centre for Educational Psychology at Tallinn University. Her main research interests lie in the area of academic motivation, but also effective learning and self-regulated learning. She is also a dedicated lecturer and enthusiast of teacher education, focusing mostly on cognitive and motivational processes in learning.

Liina Malva is a Lecturer in Special Education at Tallinn University and a practicing special education teacher. Her research interests involve teaching students with math difficulties and designing differentiated learning materials. She is collaborating with Max Planck Institute for Software Systems as a post-doctoral researcher and is part of the Teacher Knowledge Expert Group for OECD Talis study.

Mart Laanpere is a Professor of Mathematics and Computing Education in the Centre for Educational Technology at Tallinn University, Estonia. He is a founder and former head of the Centre for Educational Technology in Tallinn University. His research interests include computer science education, learning analytics, and AI for education.
